2. Getting started
Here are a few things you need to set up to start using web calling.
Supported browsers
Browsers that support web calling include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge. We do not support Safari at this time, but will in the future.
Allow usage of your microphone
Web Calling needs to be allowed to access your microphone so it can hear you.
On Mac, Firefox you will be prompted to ‘Allow’ to use your microphone.
If you don’t want to see this pop-up every time when you are starting a new call, select ‘Remember this decision’ checkbox.
If you clicked on Don’t Allow by mistake, you need to adjust this setting which appears as a crossed microphone on the address bar:
Click on the microphone and then on the ‘x’ button to clear the microphone permissions:
On Mac, Safari:
Select your audio source
Web calling uses your computer’s audio sources, so to select which speaker or headset you want to use, simply change it within your computer’s main settings, and web calling will automatically pick up the same.
You can even change the audio in or out sources while on a call, and it will automatically transfer the sound.
Desktop Notifications
So you can be notified when a call for you is coming in, you need to allow desktop notifications.
Make sure to check your notification settings at the browser and system settings level.
Do Not Disturb Mode
Some Operating Systems offer a Do Not Disturb mode. This feature (if enabled) will prevent notifications from appearing and you might miss some calls so we recommend leaving it off.

Calling from other apps
In any of our other apps, such as Messaging, Voicemail, and Fax, when you move your cursor above a list of participants, you will see the name or numbers of the participants and will be able to click on the Phone icon. This will automatically call that number or person.
Calling from the people application
Users will also have access to the People App where they will also be able to place outgoing calls. To place a call simply search and find the existing contact from the list and select it. Once the Contact details appear on the right select the Call Contact button and wait for your call to initiate.
Calling using the quick call option
You can quickly make a call by selecting the Quick Call option (located on the Call Bar shaped like a Phone) – Selecting this button will automatically send you back to the Make a Call page so you can begin entering the destination phone number.
Calling as a specific number
You may have more than 1 number on your account you are allowed to call from. For example the main company number, or, your personal business phone number.
To select which number to call out as, when you make a call, click on the default number next to the “As:” field, and select the number you prefer for this call. The person you are calling will see that number calling them, so it may help make sure they know it is you or your company.
Note: you will only see the list of numbers that are assigned to you, or where a number is configured to send text messages to your user or user extension. If you don’t see a number you are looking for, contact our Phone.com administrator, or contact our support team.

5. Managing calls
There are various things you can do when you have active calls going on.
Active call screen
Once a phone call is made or answered an active call screen appears allowing us to access the mute, keypad, deafen audio and hold features. Other important information is also displayed on this page such as the Contact Name, Caller ID, Active Call Time and number used to connect this call.
Inactive call bar
The Call Bar is located on the bottom section of the application and it offers features that change depending on your call status. While in its inactive state it will only provide the Quick Call option to quickly get to making a call without navigating through all the options.
Active call bar
Once a call is made or accepted the bar will show features to manage the phone call(s) without having to stay on the Calls App. This provides the user with the freedom to multitask without having to use other apps.
End call
Ending a call can be done directly from the call bar End Call button, the call manager pop-up or via the End Call button located within the active call screen.
Selecting the End Call will terminate the call (looks like a phone facing downwards)
Call quality indicator
Hovering-over the Call Quality Indicator provides an info box with the call quality category and some additional networking information such as latency, jitter, packet loss, and audio codec info.
Active call screen
Selecting the Active Call Icon takes the user to the Active Call screen immediately – This allows instant access to the recent calls list and other Calls-Specific features.
Keypad
Selecting the Dial Pad within the Call Bar pops-up a dial pad that can be used to send out DTMF tones when interacting /navigating with a business phone menu system or a dial by name directory etc…
Unmute call
The Call Bar will display an unmute option if the call is muted from the active call screen. Once the call is unmuted the option will disappear and will only re-appear once the call is muted again.
Call manager
A Call Manager section will appear on the center of the Call Bar with a Call Timer and a Caller ID with a drop-down option.
Selecting the Call Manager section will expand a list of active calls and will allow you to merge phone calls, switch between active calls and calls on hold, place calls on hold and end calls as well.
Merge a call
Calls can be merged after expanding the call management section and selecting Merge on any call on hold. This effectively merges the call on hold with your active call. Ending the merged call ends the connection for all call participants. Note: After the call is merged it will appear with a merged symbol and will contain a count of the callers in said call.
Calls on hold
Handling multiple calls will mean some calls will probably be on hold. The Call Bar offers the ability to keep track of how many calls you currently have on hold. Hovering over any of the hold icons will display the call’s caller ID or Contact name (if saved to People App).
